Animal Shelters Celebrate “Chihuahuas de Mayo” with “The Whole Enchihuahua”

Free Spays & Neuters and Half Off Adoption Specials in May 2012

In celebration of “Chihuahuas de Mayo” Santa Barbara County owners of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes will be able to get their dogs spayed or neutered for free during the month of May, 2012. Santa Barbara County’s major animal shelters are also offering half off adoption fees for Chihuahuas and mixes as part of the Whole Enchihuahua program.

DID YOU KNOW that more than 6,000 cats and kittens wind up in area shelters every year? Many don't make it out.

The Santa Maria Valley Humane Society (SMVHS), in a collaborative partnership with Santa Barbara County Animal Services and San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, has launched the "Cat Nips" Program to reduce the number of unwanted litters this spring. For a limited time, the SMVHS Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic is offering cat spay/neuter surgeries for the low price of $20 per cat for the first 200 cats to sign up.

Door to Door Dog License Canvassing Throughout the County

Santa Barbara County Animal Services – March 28, 2011

Did you know dog licenses are required by law? Did you know that a rabies tag is not a dog license? Many dog owners do not realize that state and local laws require all dogs over 4 months to be licensed and wearing the animal license tag.

Santa Barbara County Animal Services is canvassing door-to-door throughout the County to increase the number of dogs currently rabies vaccinated and ensure that all dogs residing in the County are currently licensed as required by law. The County of Santa Barbara enforces a zero tolerance policy on all unlicensed dogs. The penalty for having an unlicensed dog is $250. Dog owners with unlicensed dogs are reminded to purchase dog licenses to avoid penalties and be in compliance with the license law.
